What Other Flowers Are....?

As hardy as day lilies and daffodils. I have lilies in a pot that I bought well before Halloween ( live in Alabama) did%26#039;t pay much attention to them in the winter. Now they are starting to sprout again. As for Daffodils, my Mom had some in her yard %26amp; the Gardener ran them over cutting grass... still they bloom.?. What other flowers are like that???????

You can leave the lilies in the pot or you can plant them outside, not where the gardener will mow.


Don%26#039;t let the gardener mow over your daffodils again, it is possible that they will bloom this year, it%26#039;s happened to me.





Iris, most all lilies, any other spring bulb-tulip, hyacinth,crocus, etc.

Chinese Lanterns (they have been in my neighbors yard for over 75 years)


Leadwort - (plumbago) - it cameup from seed in my compost pile. My father mows over it everytime and its still there.


Miscanthus grass


Morning glories - I have been putting up the good fight to rip them out everytime I go out to weed. I keep losing.


I hope that gives you some inspirations - as a general rule of thumb, if I want something tough, I ask the fellas at the garden center what is native to here. I do real well with those (purple coneflower, black eyed susan, etc) but I think those need to freeze in order to flower.

Reply:Heard about Strawflowers, they are hardy. Look at them, they are some in my uncle%26#039;s nursery.
Reply:Iris%26#039;s are very hardy as well as peonies,several flowers are tough perennials I don%26#039;t know much about the Alabama climate or zone your in ,but I bet you could easily talk to some nurseries .And see what is hardy for your zone....There are several bulbs that do well like grape hyacinths,Narcissus.so many I could never name them all.get some gardening books from the library or purchase some and you can pick and choose good luck
Reply:I like dead nettle and sweet woodruff. Those are my favorites and they just can%26#039;t be killed, are perennial and they smell wonderful. Also try lemon thyme.





We have been in drought for 8 years and these are always beautiful and need very little attention. When everyone else%26#039;s flowers are looking dull and lifeless....these are pretty and enviable.
